Use Homemade Baking Ingredients For An Extraordinary Taste BAKING POWDER RECIPE Are you needing a baking powder substitute? We have all had the experience. In the middle of creating a cake and (gasp!) you're from baking powder. You don't need to come up with a special trip, just use the recipe below and enjoy that cake... 1 tsp baking soda 2 tsp cream of tartar Mix well and use immediately. CAKE FLOUR RECIPE Need a good substitute recipe? I never used to have cake flour accessible when I needed it, and I'm betting many more don't either. I have discovered that substitute works very, perfectly. Easy too. Makes 1 cup: 3/4 cup flour 1/4 cup cornstarch Sift together a minimum of 3 times and employ. To make two servings of flour, combine 1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour with 1/4 cup cornstarch after which sift it together a minimum of thrice. Now it's ready to the recipe. The fastest way to accomplish this substitution is always to put 2 tbsp of cornstarch towards the end of a 1-cup measuring cup, then fill the cup as usual with all-purpose flour and level top. Store the amalgamation in a very 3 pound shortening (or large coffee) container; it works great. This biscuit mix is provided for free in comparison to buying it with the supermarket. 5 cups all-purpose flour 2 TBS baking powder 2 TBS cup white sugar 1 tsp salt 1 cup shortening In a large bowl mix together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Cut in shortening using the wire whisk attachment on your own mixer until it resembles coarse crumbs. You may also do this yourself using a pastry cutter or fork. Store in a coffee can or shortening container inside refrigerator. Will keep for weeks. Personally, I used 2 glasses of this mix and mix with 3/4 cup of buttermilk for biscuits. Heat the oven to 450 degrees and bake for 12 minutes. I usually will make a huge batch of biscuits and put the leftover biscuits (if you have any!) inside a freezer bag. Then you you need to out however many you need a bit before dinner; I wrap them in foil and warmth them inside the oven. They are just like freshly made! This mix is a great topping for chicken pot pie! For pancakes, mix 2 servings of this mixture with 1 cup of milk (you might want less for thicker batter or more for thinner batter) and a couple of eggs.
